Timeline

Five Years At A Glance

EST. May 2017
Year 1 | 2017-2018

Chabad Center for Jewish Life was established right before the Shavuot Holiday. Our first program was a small Shavuot celebration at the Rabbi's Home in Bristow. It soon blossomed into a grand Chanukah at the Gateway, Purim in Israel and our first Community BBQ.

Our first year set a foundation of building connections with families and individuals.

Year 2 | 2018-2019

We welcomed the opening of Gainesville's first Hebrew School, introduced our First JLI Adult Education Series, celebrated Jewish Women at the Mega Challah Bake, built our first Community Sukkah, and perhaps the years highlight was welcoming Gainesville's first Community Torah. We had the honor of receiving congressional recognition for our new Torah.

Year 3 | 2019-2020

The year began with a stress on community growth and family engagement. We began the Monthly Community Shabbat Lunch & Services, introduced the High Holiday Family Dinner, and began a set bi-monthly Mommy & Me program. We had just launched our TGI Shabbat Friday Night Experience and celebrated Purim in the 20's when we got hit by COVID...

We quickly responded to our communities needs with an array of online classes and activities. We began home Matzah deliveries for Passover, on call volunteers, mask distribution and individual check-ins.

Year 4 | 2020-2021

A year that we never thought would happen found us all physically distant. We were committed to keeping the community emotionally close and engaged. We brought the Holidays to everyone's home with beautiful Holiday bags, drove over 250 miles in three days with the Sukkah mobile, and lifted our Chanukah spirit with a Drive In Video Concert. We inspired one another over the High Holidays in a spacious outdoor tent, and celebrated Essential Purim on the Gainesville Park 'n Ride.

Year 5 | 2021-2022

We began to build the bridge to a return in person. We stayed committed to Holiday Bag deliveries, saw the return of full High Holiday Programs, Chanukah at the Gateway, Monthly Shabbat Programming, Hybrid JLI classes, a fun filled Hebrew School of the Arts and celebrated our first community seder with a full house at the Hampton Inn. We had the honor this year of receiving the County Proclamation for "Education & Sharing Day" honoring the Rebbe's 120th birthday.

About

Chabad Center For Jewish Life

The Chabad Center For Jewish Life, established in 2017, became the first Jewish Center on the Eastern end of Prince William County. We answered the call of locals for Jewish services and programming.

Inspired by the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe obm, Chabad aims to care for every Jew, with love and respect, in an inviting & welcoming environment.

Over the last 5 years, Chabad has built on it's mission to build a community for the local Jewish population, impact the lives of individuals from all backgrounds with personal support, and create a future for our youth and Jewish community.

Led by Rabbi Shmuly & Goldie Perlstein (and now baby Mendel), Chabad offers Jewish education, outreach and social-service programming for families and individuals of all ages, backgrounds and affiliations.

Over the last five years, Chabad has continued to grow and inspire the community using homes, clubhouses and public school for it's venues. Chabad is excited to continue to grow with the community in the years ahead and one day build our very own home for the community.

Chabad Center For Jewish Life, is an independent and self funded organization. We rely on funding from local support and people like you, and look forward to celebrating our shared success.
